Hugh R. Jones Memorial Lecture

The Hugh Jones Memorial Lecture is named in honor of Judge Hugh R. Jones, a former Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals.  Judge Jones was a leader in efforts to improve the courts.  He served as Chair of the Commission on Judicial Nomination; Chair of the Temporary State Commission on Executive, Legislative and Judicial Compensation; Chair of the Select Committee on Correctional Institutions and Programs; President of the New York State Bar Association; and Director of the Committee for Modern Courts.

Judge Jones also authored a leading article on judging, Cogitations on Appellate Decision-Making. The Judge Hugh Jones Memorial Lecture is intended to honor Judge Jones by promoting research and writing on issues affecting the judiciary.

The annual lecture is co-sponsored by Albany Law School and held in the Dean Alexander Moot Courtroom. Albany law students attend the lecture to engage them in the history of the Court of Appeals.
