Integrated Domestic Violence Courts
June 4, 2002

In June of 2002, Modern Courts' Capital District Chapter sponsored a forum entitled, "Integrated Domestic Violence Courts: Steps in the Right Direction & the Need for Court Restructuring." The panelists discussed the initiative of the domestic violence courts as a means to enhance victim security, ensure offender accountability and increase the flow of information between the myriad of courts that may be involved in various aspects of a violent domestic dispute.  The Integrated Domestic Violence Courts have become a necessary temporary approach for the Unified Court System in lieu of much needed court restructuring.  Participating as panelists were the three judges now presiding over Integrated Domestic Violence Courts -- Daniel D. Angiolillo of Westchester County, Ruth Levine Sussman of the Bronx and George B. Ceresia Jr. of Rensselaer County.  The Honorable Jonathan Lippman, Chief Administrative Judge, acted as moderator.  The forum, co-sponsored and held at the New York State Bar Association, attracted a very diverse audience, including all seven judges of the New York State Court of Appeals.
