The CJP Interns: Summer 2008 | Meet the Summer 2007 Ombuds Booth Interns
     

Oluwaseun (Seun) Babalola is a senior at Hunter College pursuing a degree in Film and Italian. Previously, she has worked as a graphics designer in the media center for Hunter College, technical director at the Tribeca Film Festival, and editor for personal video projects. She has been working for Fund for Modern Courts since January 2008 to bridge her interest in entertainment and law.

Sashauna Beckford is a graduate of Queens College where she has a dual major in Psychology and Sociology and is anticipating graduate school in Summer of 2009. She has led the Caribbean Student Association as their Vice President and is the recipient of the United Federation of Teachers Medal of Recognition for Service, the Dean’s List and National Honor Roll.

Judyann Bentick is a graduate in government and history from Skidmore College, where she participated in the International Affairs Club. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Criminal Justice at John Jay College. She has worked as a Court Advocate for women who seek substance-abuse treatment as an alternative to incarceration, an investigator with the Civilian Complaint Review Board, and as a legal assistant at a major law firm.

Edna Bissoon is a senior at New York University, where she is majoring in political science and history. She is a founding member of Bella Quisqueya, an organization that increases awareness of Dominican heritage and empowers students of color. In study abroad programs, she taught students in Ghana and worked at a soup kitchen in London. She has been an intern for both a NY State Senator and NYC City Council member.

Andrea Colan is in the Masters' program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. A graduate of Queens College with a B.A. in political science and sociology, she held positions assisting students with inquiries in the Hispanic Language and Literature Department and the Financial Aid Office. Fluent in Spanish, she has worked with the Citizens Jury Project since September 2006 at Ombuds booths and on special projects.

Antonia De Meza is a junior, studying Democracy and Cultural Pluralism at The New School, where she is a student rep and coordinator of the Latin America Forum. Fluent in Spanish, she volunteered as a language teacher for new immigrants at the International Link Community Center in Asheville, NC, where she attended Warren Wilson College and was active with International Student Affairs. She began in Summer 2006.

Kara Lawrence is a sophomore studying political science and history at The College of New Rochelle, where she is an honors student and Editor-in-Chief of Tatler, the student run newspaper.  She tutors a number of natural/social science classes, Spanish, French, and SAT Prep classes.  She proudly serves as the President of the Omicron Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she uses her talents to effect change in her community. 

Edwin Quezada is a 2008 graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he majored in government with a concentration in urban leadership. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award. Edwin also works as an intern with the Office of the Mayor NYC Commission for the United Nations and formerly with the NYC Council. He plans to pursue a career in public relations.

Ruoyu(Rory) Lin is a senior at George Washington University.  Her major is international affairs with concentrations in conflict and security and in Asia.  She is also working on a minor in religion.  Rory has worked at various political organizations based in Washington DC.  Previously, she interned at the Institute on Religion and Public Policy and The American Enterprise Institute. Rory studied abroad in Brussels, Belgium the fall of 2007.

Rachel Reilly is a junior at Fordham University. She is studying Sociology and she is interested in pursuing a career in law. In 2008 she worked as a tutor with children from fourth to sixth grade at Fordham Bedford Children's Services with the America Reads and Counts program. She has also volunteered with first graders at the after school program at the Concourse House in the Bronx.

Nishana Weerasooriya is a senior at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. She majors in government and international relations with a concentration in pre-law. She has interned at the Attorney General's Office in the District of Columbia. She has also co-chaired the Millennium Leadership Conference for minority students in the North-East.

Mazi Yasoboof is a senior at Binghamton University. She is studying human development with a concentration in psychology. Mazi is a NYS certified rape crisis counselor. Mazi also works for the Crime Victims Assistance Center where she facilitates various crime related programs and monitors the crisis line. Previously, she was the legal intern at Innocent Stolen and interned in two Queens Courthouses. As well as being a teacher's assistant for Multicultural Psychology at her University, she designed, implemented and facilitated the Cultural Exploration Program at the Binghamton High School.
